If you’re into fun music, tasty food inspired by every corner of the world, and neon lighting, you need to visit Eat Street Northshore when you’re next in Brisbane.
Eat Street Northshore is a permanent structure made from a massive 180 repurposed shipping containers, that comes alive every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. The containers are filled with food vendors and art installations that make you feel like you’re exploring the most amazing back alleys of some fantasy city. It’s one of those places that’s just as enjoyable if you’re 6, 21 or 60!
Fantastic live music was playing on two of the stages while we were there, with a variety of music and dance acts each night to watch while enjoying your food and drink. The whole venue felt very communal and just straight up enjoyable.
Loving the Laneways
Something we personally love to see is that Eat Street take their environmental impact very seriously, and have implemented changes to reduce waste. They have also partnered with community initiatives to have a positive impact; your oyster shells will go to helping restore an artificial reef in Moreton bay, cans will go to the children’s charity Variety to help with projects, and upper level containers are being used for hydroponic farming to develop new practices. And if that’s not impressive enough, all of your food is served in compostable materials. Wow!
We started the evening with Shanghai Juicy Dumplings, followed by Spicy Teriyaki Chicken Pizza, then a slice of Pepperoni Pizza, before moving on to the all-important desserts! Click on each image below for vendor details for each dish we tried.
Our first dessert was Caramel Biscuit Doughnut Fries from the Doughnut Bar. Without a doubt this was my favourite of the night - the chip-shaped doughnut sticks covered in ice-cream and topping were ridiculously tasty and fun to eat, and you can watch them be made right in front of you! The night was finished with Salted Caramel Popcorn from Popper Pete’s Popcorn, another amazing treat.
We also drank some homemade lemonade from Dutch De Lites - it was so sweet and refreshing!
